Motor vehicle accident in Vienna sends three to hospital

VIENNA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — A two-vehicle accident in the town of Vienna on Saturday, July 6 has sent three people to the hospital, according to Oneida County Sheriffs.

Deputies responded to the intersection of Teelin Road and Herder Road in the town of Vienna at approximately 3:15 pm on Saturday. Further investigation found that the operator of the first vehicle — later identified as 36-year-old Kristen Pelton of Blossvale — was driving westbound on Teelin Road, when she allegedly failed to yield the right of way.

As Pelton entered into the intersection, her vehicle struck a motorcycle driven by 60-year-old Mark Pickard of Canastota. The collision caused Pickard to become airborne and hit his head on the windshield of Pelton’s vehicle.

Mark Pickard was transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. His passenger, 59-year-old Penny Pickard, was transported to Oneida Hospital for evaluation and complaints of leg pain. Pelton was transported to Rome Hospital for evaluation and complaints of chest pain.

Pelton was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way at a stop sign. That citation is returnable to the Town of Vienna Court at a later date.

Oneida County Sheriffs were assisted on the scene by the Vienna Fire Department, AmCare Ambulance of Rome and North Shore Ambulance of Cleveland.
